Expectations handed out at Parent Night [ 7th grade | 8th grade ]

Books: Prentice Hall Publisher
America History of Our Nation
Foundations of Geography
Economics: Guide to the Essentials Workbook

Historically, 7th grade takes up where 5th grade left off (after a review), at pre-Civil War Era, continuing up to the Great Depression.

8th grade’s first trimester emphasis is the United States and Arizona Constitutions with a survey of the historical markers in their development. This is an excellent part of our preparation for April’s Washington, D.C. trip. We then continue the timeline from the World War I to today.

Our general goals that accommodate Diocese and AZ Standards are:

  • Full range of Social Studies Standards related to our Catholic faith.
  • Economics, geography (i.e., 5 Themes of Geography), and current events integrated into American history and related to cause and effect on our daily lives. Emphasis the next year of elections.
  • Reading skills within a context area.
  • Writing skills using the 6+1 Traits of Writing technique (this year’s emphasis on “Organization” trait); expository writing, writing process.
  • Study, test taking, time management, and organization skills.
  • Research skills.
  • Current events especially connected to the background history of events and to our Catholic faith.
