Upcoming Spring Events

Diocesan Spanish Spelling BeeOur 6th Grader Jorge R. actually won the Diocesan Spanish Spelling Bee for Level II (Grades 5-8).  Felicidades Jorge on winning the Diocesan Spanish Spelling Bee on April 5, 2008 for Level II (Grade 5-8).

Zoo Field Trip – The 2nd Grade Zoológical Performance will be held in the Ramada on May 16th at 8:15am. Click here for more information.

Other upcoming events

  • 8th Grade: The last day of Spanish class for the 8th Graders is May 12th.
    We will begin preparing for the Annual Spanish Festival “Día de los Niños” soon. This event will be held May 20th.
  • 7th Grade Spanish Fieldtrip: The 7th Graders will be taking a fieldtrip on Thursday, April 24th to El Rancho Market in Chandler where they will order their lunch in Spanish and enjoy a mexican dish of their choosing.  This has become a traditional event for the 7th Graders and it is a wonderful way to put what they've learned in the classroom to practical use.  If you would like to join us as a chaperone please call the school and ask for Señora Flores or Mrs. Hester.

1st grade
  • will review numbers (los números), colors (los colores), shapes (las formas) and members of their family (mi familia)
  • will continue to explore the Spanish language through dialogue, music and creative activities.
2nd grade
  • culture and history of Spain
  • will review all Spanish terms taught the first two years: Months of the year (los meses del año), the Seasons (las estaciones)
  • additional family members will be introduced
3rd grade
  • will be exposed to the following countries in Central America: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panamá.
  • will continue to review Spanish vocabulary and will begin to read dialogue.
  • will use common greetings in class and will begin to use the language in creative writing.
4th grade
  • will be encouraged to speak Spanish in class.
  • will continue building their vocabulary and participate in daily dialogue.
  • will also be introduced to the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
5th grade
  • will concentrate on spelling words correctly, building Spanish vocabulary and learning more about how to conjugate -ar, -er and -ir verbs in present tense.
  • will be adding adjectives to the vocabulary.
6th grade
  • continue to build on Spanish vocabulary
  • will be reviewing material covered in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. In each section we will cover the review material and then add
    a more in-depth 6th grade part
  • Spelling and reading in Spanish becomes much more
    important.
7th & 8th grade
  • will concentrate on spelling words correctly, building Spanish vocabulary and learning more about how to conjugate -ar, -er and -ir verbs in present tense
  • will be creative in writings and read short stories and dialogues
  • will also be adding adjectives to the vocabulary
