CLASS NEWS Click here to view the results the IOWA Test of Basic Skills results for 2009-2010. St. Mary-Basha Catholic School offers a variety of academic programs. Art An Art classroom was built in 2006 as part of the renovation of the old convent. In addition to a classroom that seats up to 32 students, it includes a dark room and a kiln. 45-minute classes are held for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade every week. Band Arizona Music and Fine Arts offers classes in Band at St. Mary-Basha School. A beginning band, offered for students in grades 4th or higher, emphasizes note reading and proper fundamentals of the student's chosen instrument. Advanced Band, offered for any student who has successfully completed one year of class or who has had private music instruction, continues work on funamentals as well as an increased emphasis on group playing. Computer/Technology Ms Diane Meza is our Technology teacher. Students use of the computer lab provides yet another tool for different student/teacher learning styles by helping teachers and students integrate technology into their already existing curriculum. Long Library The Long Library contains over 14,000 titles, including books, periodicals, videos/DVDs, audiobooks and games. It's mission is to provide its users with quality materials that are selected with the overall purpose of ensuring that its staff and students are effective users of ideas and information. The library media program is a center of instruction and inter-disciplinary curriculum support for St. Mary-Basha Catholic School. Mrs. Ballesteros is our librarian. Music The Music program is headed by Mrs. Kiki Pfeifer. Students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade participate in Music class once or twice a week, depending on the grade. Mrs. Pfeifer also offers choir for students in grades five through eight. Physical Education Mrs. Thompson serves as the P.E. teacher and Athletic Director. Reading Resource St. Mary-Basha is fortunate to have a Reading Program. Mrs. Fraser and Mrs. Heikkala work with Mrs. Meyer who oversees the program.
Spanish The Spanish program is headed by Senora Alicia Flores. Students in grades Kindergarten through eight have class twice a week for 30 minutes each. Speech and Language Mrs. Marfe spends time working toward improving students' speech and language skills in order to help them to be successful in their classroom communication skills, as well as in their overall academic skills.
