The Long Library and Multi-Media Center is located on the campus of St. Mary-Basha Catholic School in Chandler, AZ. The library was dedicated to the school principal, Sr. Mary Norbert Long, S.C., in December 1999.
LIBRARY HOURS: Mon - Thur 7:30a - 4:00p / Friday 7:30a - 3:00p
The Long Library contains approximately 12,000 titles! This includes books, periodicals, videos/DVDs, audiobooks and games.
Circulation
Kindergartners may have up to two items checked out at a time. Books are checked out for one week. Audio/visual materials are checked out for two days.
First through eighth graders may have up to five items checked out at a time. Books are checked out for two weeks. Audio/visual materials are checked out for two days.
Fines
Ten cents per day for books.
Twenty-five cents per day for videos, DVDs, etc.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
The Accelerated Reader Program is a nationally-acclaimed reading comprehension program. Students in second through eighth grade are required to read AR books and pass tests as part of the Language Arts curriculum. AR tests are added throughout the school year as donations are made through our “Birthday Book Program.”
"Battle of the Books"
Each year the fifth and sixth grade students have the option of participating in the "Battle of the Books" Students form their own teams, read assigned books and compete as they answer questions. The highest scoring team at the end of the school year goes on to represent the school at the Chandler Public Library System's District Finale.
Birthday Book Program
Designed as a way to recognize students birthdays as well as develop the library collection.
A letter explaining the program is sent home to the parent on the first Wednesday of the month of the students birthday. Donations to the Birthday Book Program DO go towards your fundraising commitment.
Volunteers
PALS hours may be earned by volunteering in the library. Shelving, reading at storytime, cleaning, and decorating are all ways to fulfill your hours.
