Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten

 Preschool

The St. Mary-Basha Catholic Preschool is located at St. Juan Diego Church. The preschool program is for children three years of age and/or young four-year-olds, especially those who have not attended school before.  All classes are in session from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The Preschool is licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services. The curriculum supports the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix Preschool Standards and is closely aligned with the State of Arizona Early Learning Standards. The program focuses on the social-emotional development of the students, such as learning to separate from parents, following a routine, sharing/taking turns, and using words to express feelings. Additionally, children will be exposed to early academics through play, counting, recognizing numbers, shapes, upper and lower-case letters, and how to write their name.

Catholic identity permeates the curriculum. Children will learn some prayers and Bible stories, as well as some basic tenets of our Catholic faith. An Atrium (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd) teacher visits the classroom weekly for music, and prior to various holy days, to present lessons to the students.

Pre-Kindergarten

Our school has a strong and visible Catholic identity. St. Mary-Basha Catholic School is dedicated to preparing our students for a life that will positively impact the community through principles rooted in the Gospel and in the teachings of the Catholic Church. Opportunities for prayer are embedded into the curriculum and experienced throughout the school day. We follow the Diocese of Phoenix Religion curriculum, which also meets the requirements of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. St. Mary-Basha Catholic School is focused on the formation of the whole child. Our teachers treat each student as an individual and use different learning styles, multiple intelligences, and differentiated instruction to address the diverse learning needs of our students. The preschool director works closely with the primary teachers to ensure kindergarten preparedness and curriculum alignment.
