Katie Lyon

Born and raised in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Lyon's journey in education has been fueled by her passion for teaching and her commitment to providing quality Catholic education to every child. Her own educational path began in Catholic schools in Illinois, which laid the foundation for her lifelong dedication to faith-based learning.

After high school, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and began her career in the hotel industry as a Catering Sales Manager. While she enjoyed the hospitality field, it wasn’t long before she realized her true calling was in education. Determined to follow that path, Mrs. Lyon earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Ottawa and began working in the Kyrene School District, where she gained valuable classroom experience and refined her teaching skills.

In 2007, Mrs. Lyon relocated to Los Angeles, California, where she found her place in Catholic schools. Her passion for technology in education led her to pursue a Master of Science in Education Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University, which she completed in 2010. This advanced degree allowed her to bring innovative digital tools into the classroom and enhance student engagement. Her expertise soon led to leadership roles, including Vice Principal and Technology Director at a Catholic school in West Los Angeles.

Over the years, Mrs. Lyon has taught students at various grade levels, and these diverse classroom experiences have helped shape her educational philosophy. She firmly believes that every child deserves access to a high-quality Catholic education that nurtures both academic growth and spiritual development. In 2023, she furthered her commitment to educational leadership by completing a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Arizona State University. This additional training has strengthened her ability to lead with compassion, purpose, and vision.

Outside of her professional life, Mrs. Lyon enjoys traveling with her husband and their three daughters. They love exploring new places and experiencing different cultures together. She is also an avid reader who values the way literature can spark curiosity and deepen learning. Staying active is a priority for her, and she embraces opportunities to live a balanced, fulfilling life.

Mrs. Lyon is thrilled to be part of the SMB family and contribute to the school’s mission. She is dedicated to making Catholic education accessible and meaningful for every student in her care and looks forward to many rewarding years at SMB, helping to shape confident, faith-filled leaders for the future.
