Katie Lyon

Born and raised in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Lyon's journey in education has been driven by her passion for teaching and her unwavering commitment to providing quality Catholic education to every child.

Mrs. Lyon's educational journey began in Catholic schools during her childhood in Illinois. After completing her high school education, she decided to venture out west, ultimately landing in Phoenix, Arizona. In the vibrant desert city, she embarked on her professional career as a Catering Sales Manager in the hotel industry. However, her true calling was always in the field of education.

Driven by her lifelong dream of becoming an educator, Mrs. Lyon took a bold step and pursued a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Ottawa. Equipped with a solid foundation, she began working in the Kyrene School District, gaining valuable experience and honing her teaching skills. Seeking new opportunities, she relocated to the bustling city of Los Angeles, California in 2007, where she found her niche in Catholic schools.

Continuing her dedication to professional growth and innovation, Mrs. Lyon earned an M.S. in Education Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University in 2010. This advanced degree allowed her to seamlessly integrate technology into her teaching methodologies, enriching the learning experiences of her students. Mrs. Lyon's expertise in educational technology and her commitment to Catholic education led her to assume the roles of Vice Principal and Technology Director at a prestigious Catholic school in West Los Angeles, California.

Throughout her career, Mrs. Lyon has had the privilege of teaching students in various grade levels. Her classroom experiences have shaped her teaching philosophy and reinforced her belief that every child deserves the opportunity to receive a Catholic education.

In pursuit of continuous professional development and to further enhance her leadership skills, Mrs. Lyon recently completed another milestone in her educational journey. In 2023, she earned a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from ASU, solidifying her commitment to making a positive impact on the education community.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Mrs. Lyon finds joy in traveling alongside her husband and three daughters, exploring new places, and embracing different cultures. She is an avid reader and believes in the power of literature to inspire and ignite a love for learning. Staying active is another vital aspect of her life, as she understands the importance of a healthy mind and body.

Mrs. Lyon is delighted to be a part of the SMB family and is thrilled to contribute to the school's mission. She firmly believes that every child deserves a Catholic education, and she is dedicated to making that dream a reality for students under her guidance. With her wealth of experience, passion for teaching, and commitment to educational excellence, Mrs. Lyon looks forward to many fulfilling years at SMB, shaping young minds and nurturing the next generation of leaders.
