STUDENTS ENTERING 1st GRADE

 

A kindergarten math student entering 1st grade should be able to:
  • Add and subtract facts to 5
  • Skip count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s
  • Identify numbers to 100
A kindergarten language arts student entering 1st grade should be able to:
  • Read words with blends, long vowels
  • Read introduced sight words
  • Read grade level text aloud with fluency
  • Write first and last name
  • Write a sentence with correct capitalization, punctuation, word spacing, and grade level spelling
In addition, students entering 1st grade should:
  • Recite the Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Guardian Angel, and Grace Before Meals
  • Be attentive and participate at Mass
  • Follow and implement the first 5 Discipline With Purpose (DWP) skills
  • Be able to learn and recite the St. Mary-Basha Catholic School Mission Statement
  • Be able to learn and know the St. Mary-Basha Catholic School Student Learning Expectations
