Students Entering 6th Grade
A fifth grade math student entering 6th grade should be able to:
- Multiply and divide facts to 12
- Subtract with regrouping
- Multiply multiple digit factors
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide with decimals
- Multiply and divide mixed numbers and fractions
- Convert fractions, decimals, and percentages
A fifth grade language arts student entering 6th grade should be able to:
- Write in cursive
- Read independently on grade level for a minimum of 30 minutes
- Write in complete sentences, using correct conventions (capitalization, punctuation, vocabulary, and spelling)
- Write a five to seven sentence paragraph with a topic sentence, concrete details, and closing sentence
- Identify parts of speech (nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs)
In addition, students entering 6th grade should:
- Know basic Catholic prayers, sacraments, parts of the liturgy, and mysteries of the rosary
- Follow and implement all 15 Discipline With Purpose (DWP) skills
- Recite the St. Mary-Basha Catholic School Mission Statement
- Know the St. Mary-Basha Catholic School Student Learning Expectations
