Students Entering 7th Grade
A sixth grade math student entering 7th grade should be able to:
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide positive and negative numbers with 90% (or higher) accuracy
- Use the order of operations (PEMDAS) to properly calculate math sentences that have multiple operations
- Understand fractions, decimals, and percentages - be able to: compare, order, add, subtract, multiply, and divide math sentences that have fractions, decimals, and/or percentages
- Solve one step equations using any of the following operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division
A sixth grade language arts student entering 7th grade should be able to:
- Write in cursive
- Use proper heading on papers
- Identify the Eight Parts of Speech, including participles, gerunds, and infinitives
- Write in complete sentences, using correct conventions (capitalization, punctuation, vocabulary, and spelling)
- Write a five to seven sentence paragraph with a topic sentence, concrete details, commentary, and closing sentence
- Read on grade level for a minimum of 45 minutes
- Identify the essential parts of a plot in a story or novel
In addition, students entering 7th grade should:
- Know basic Catholic prayers, sacraments, parts of the liturgy, and mysteries of the rosary
- Follow and implement all 15 Discipline With Purpose (DWP) skills
- Recite the St. Mary-Basha Catholic School Mission Statement
- Know the St. Mary-Basha Catholic School Student Learning Expectations
