Home and School Association (HSA)

About the HSA

The Home and School Association (HSA) is an organization of parents sharing their talents and dedication to St. Mary-Basha Catholic School (SMB). HSA supports the SMB Administration and Advisory Council by:
  • Providing service to SMB through a mindset of servant leadership.
  • Enhancing the sense of community through parental involvement and support in collaboration with faculty efforts.
  • Publicly supporting the strong tradition of Catholic Identity at SMB.
  • Raising public awareness of the successes of SMB.
  • Achieving our mission is only made possible through the contributions of talent, time, energy, and financial support from the St. Mary-Basha Community. We thank you all for your support. Whether it is as a committee chair, volunteer or event attendee, your involvement in HSA is greatly appreciated! We could not provide the support or funding to our school without our generous and talented SMB Community!

HSA Membership and Dues
Every parent and guardian with a child at SMB is automatically part of the HSA! No application to fill out!  We rely on all families to be active members of our school community. We could not provide the support or funding to our school without our generous and talented SMB Community!

HSA dues of $60.00 per family will be charged to each family's FACTS account in August. Eighty percent (80%) of the fee goes directly to the homeroom program to assist with Teacher Birthday and Christmas gifts, grade level sponsored luncheon and class Christmas party. The remaining $12.00 (20%) goes to the HSA General fund to support HSA sponsored activities and programs.

HSA Ongoing Fundraisers
HSA offers several fundraisers throughout the year. The following HSA fundraisers are on going and a great way for the school to raise money and help provide funding support our teachers, student and build our SMB community.  This year, more than ever, the HSA needs your support!

Dine Out Restaurant Fundraisers
Take a night off from cooking and dine out or grab take out at local restaurants and donate to SMB. Watch for announcements of periodic events throughout the year at local restaurants that will donate a portion for your bill back to our school. Share this information with local family and friend to help support SMB. The more diners we have the bigger the donation!  Last year, restaurants included In & Out, Culvers, Floridino’s, Peter Piper Pizza.  Check the HSA Facebook Page Events section for upcoming Dine Out Nights!

Box Tops for Education
General Mills gives SMB 10 cents for each box top that is clipped or scanned. Box Tops is now a digital program. Download the app and create your profile and select St. Mary-Basha Catholic Elementary School (zip code 85225) as your school to support. Scan your receipt using the app within 14 days of purchase and our school account will receive the credit. Updated products will have a “blue no clipping” Box Top label. These labels are not sent to school and are only scanned in the app to receive credit. During this transition to digital, some products still have the old “pink” clip Box Tops that you can clip and send into school for credit.  Go to www.btfe.com for more information and download a participating product list. Buy-Scan-Earn for SMB!

Used Uniform Sale
A chance to clean out your closets, recycle, and reuse uniforms and raise funds for SMB.  Let’s be honest, our kids can outgrow their uniforms before the end of school year! SMB families donate gently used uniform items and HSA resells the items at a deep discount. This is an affordable option to pick up additional uniform apparel.  If you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact the Front Office for uniform assistance.

HSA Funds Support
Every year Home & School takes an active role in putting the proceeds from the various activities and fundraisers back into the school, whether adding improvements to the school facility, bringing educational and enjoyable programs to the students, providing technology to students, or through supporting the teachers and staff. HSA funds support:
  • Teachers’ Luncheons
  • Campus Beautification and Mary’s Garden
  • Catholic School Week
  • Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Operational needs of the school
  • Guest Speaker Program
  • Back to School
  • Teacher Gifts
  • Class Christmas Parties
  • Sacrament Retreat
  • ….and so much more
How to get involved...
There are many opportunities for family members to become involved in their child’s education through the HSA. Look for Sign-up Genius and newsletter updates with volunteer opportunities to support events and programs. These are great ways to support the school community, meet other parents and earn Eagle hours.  In the Spring, applications are accepted for next year’s HSA Board open positions.

To ensure the safety and welfare of our students, all volunteers must complete screening and training. St Mary-Basha and the Diocese of Phoenix requires that all employees and volunteers achieve and maintain Safe Environment training certification and pass state and federal background checks before volunteering at our school.

For more information, to register for training or complete your annual renewal go to CMG Connect Diocese of Phoenix Training hub:  https://phoenix.cmgconnect.org
