Students Entering 2nd Grade
A first grade math student entering 2nd grade should be able to:
- Add facts to 10
- Subtract facts to 10
- Skip count by 2s, 5s, 10s
A first grade language arts student entering 2nd grade should be able to:
- Read independently on grade level for a minimum of 15 minutes
- Read aloud - practice comprehension, fluency, correct pauses
- Write a 3-4 sentence paragraph to support a main idea (using first, next, last)
- Use nouns, verbs, adjectives, and pronouns correctly in simple sentences
In addition, students entering 2nd grade should:
- Know basic Catholic prayers (including the Peace Prayer)
- Know the basics of Mass
- Follow and implement the first 5 Discipline With Purpose (DWP) skills
- Recite the St. Mary-Basha Catholic School Mission Statement
- Know the St. Mary-Basha Catholic School Student Learning Expectations
