Long Library


The primary goal of the Long Library/Media Center is to ensure that students become competent, confident, and responsible users of information. The Long Library/Media Center provides a wide selection of books, DVD’s, periodicals, and technologies to meet the educational and recreational needs of the students.

Library Curriculum

Grade K: Prayer; library procedures; story time; appropriate book selection; parts of a book; title, author, illustrator, setting; book fair

Grade 1: Prayer; library procedures; story time; sections of the library; introduction to ReadnQuiz

Grade 2: Prayer; story time; alphabetical order activities; fiction/nonfiction; OPAC’s; instruction on ReadnQuiz usage; introduction to reference materials; guidewords; introduction to biographies/autobiographies; introduction to Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDCS)

Grade 3: Prayer; review OPAC’s; review ReadnQuiz; Write Your Own Biography; Write Your Own Autobiography; library information skills; fiction/nonfiction; book genres; Melvil Dewey/Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDCS); how to use dictionaries, encyclopedias, directories, atlases and almanacs; book fair and how to handle money/taxes
